1] A BIG “Thank You” to :

  • Sahana - my GSoC organisation for selecting my project idea and giving me a chance to join in & contribute to the development.
  • Fran Boon - My Mentor for the GSoC project :-) [he rOcks!] for all the guidance and encouragement.
  • Friends I made @ ##gsoc-india & #gsoc for the fun we had, the codes we discussed, the phone calls, the meetups etc etc! It was all motivating and pHun being with you all.
  • My school mates, whom i got back to since I recovered from the “coma” of 4 years :P, who kept encouraging and helped getting back into the groove. Vivek, Akash, Pia.
  • Few special friends who stayed along, kept pushing! [you know who you are don't you ;-)] OK. Kaps, Shellz, Rakesh!
  • my room mates Nishant, Amit, Deepak, Chanpreet for being there!
  • My parents for being there. And letting me cOde! :P in the oddly hours. My time table became opposite, sleep in the day and wake up in the night. Not exactly day & night, I used to code till 6 am, go for a jogging/running to further tire myself. Take a shower, have breakfast and off to sleep! To wake up at around 3-4 pm. Weird no ?
  • School friends @ Bangalore with whom I stayed for a month and other friends from Wipro I met there. I had fun! :-) Navin, Rahul, Ashish, Tariq.
  • to Google for paying me! and now certifying me :-) and promoting “Open Source”. And the t-shirt of course, the most important part! :-)
  • to Leslie Hawthorn, Program Manager, GSoC and the Open Source Programs Office team for handling the program of such a nature, with so little resources.
  • again to Leslie Hawthorn, for being a mentor taking care of all the students! [I tell you her real name is Trinity, just that she only has 2 hands, but does equal multi-tasking as Trinity. ;-)]
  • other hidden forces and people who worked towards making all this possible. :-) Google Accounts dept, FedEx :P especially!
Me on the Map!

Nokia Care Bangalore - Rip Offs?

Slightly unconventional for me write on such an issue with such a title :-P but alas, I think I should get others opinion on this matter and that’s the reason I am posting it here on my blog.

After all, some knowledgeable souls out there could advise on this situation!

So following KISS [ Keeping it Short & Simple] principle: Ok I realised, that by no means I follow that as its a big post :P

  • Phone Model : Nokia N95 8 Gb Edition.
  • Cost: Rs.  30940 [ $728, @ 1 USD == 42.5 INR]
  • Date of Purchase: 14 November 2007. Warranty - 1 Year!!
  • Gave it to local Nokia Care with they said they returned it saying that they don’t have the resources to repair it.
  • Took it to Nokia Care in Bangalore. They gave me a dead set back!!
  • Now the set is with the dealer the phone was bought from, he gave it again to local Nokia care, and its there for over 2 months now!
  • Read along for more details!

Site stats for August 2008

My website stats for August 2008:
Number of Unique Visitors: 630
Number of Visits: 2166
Number of Page Views: 8219
Number of Hits: 16636

No! Not boasting it off :-) Don’t even know if its worth mentioning :D

Anyways, the reason is looking at the country list of visitors 1. USA, 2. Australia & 3. India. Rank wise…

Seems obvious, although few names like Argentina! Spain, Luxembourg, Sudan, Italy!! :D surprise me :-)

/me says hellows to all of them :-)

The biggest surprise was, page views from an “Unknown IP” which the intelligent Awstats or its GeoIP plugin couldn’t figure out. Hmmm I TOLD YOU GUYS!! Aliens DO EXIST!! But NO, you wont listen!!

SEE!! they visit **my** site.. I wonder they liked my Pizza franchisee idea on the moon ??? If so, Mr. Alien, please drop me an email in case you are interested in that business proposition, or even if you could provide me some stats on how many, what kind of people Aliens exists out there, and what are their dietary preferences, I could plan accordingly…! :-)

Sahana’s Response to Bihar Floods

The Sahana team is currently working on setting up custom deployments as per the requirements specific for the Bihar floods. Currently, we are working on Translating Sahana to Hindi, that could be used in the deployment.  As you might have heard there are about 1-2 million people who have been affected by the Bihar disaster. A team in Kolkata (Calcutta) has just been initiated for the deployment effort.
If you wish to join us and contribute to this response effort please select the appropriate communication channel:

Communication Channels to be followed in case you are willing to contribute:

  1. Join the Localization Group for Sahana @ Google Groups for any communications and updates!
All translation related discussions go on the localization mailing list. [An important update on collaboration has been posted there for people working on the Hindi translation. So please join & check. Update: This thread]
  2. For people using Sahana and working on it, for issues relating to generic Sahana installation etc and usage can join and post to this mailing list. We have a wider range of support available here.
  3. In case you wish to work on the Bihar relief work going on you should co-ordinate with the Group Dedicated here: Sahana Bihar Google Group
Please note your credentials will be verified by the group to ensure that information here is not misused. In case your a new person and wish to help with translation ONLY join the first group, in case you want to contribute with the Sahana development, join the developers mailing list instead mentioned below in the links section. Update: Its seems lot of people trying to work on the translation and are joining this list instead. :-) Please do not join this list. That is for the team and people who are working with the Government agencies @ Bihar scenario, NGOs, Sahana developers etc. I understand you wish to help, and hence request to join the appropriate channels of communication! :-)
